Competitors ranged in age from 5 to upwards of 75, and it was wonderful to see people connecting with old friends and building new connections at the post-race brunch. Read more: Newsletter: August 29, 2025Lake Clean-Up: Please Take A Walk On Your Shoreline Choose a day and time that works best for you this weekend to scour a section of the lake, beaches, roads, and trees along the shoreline for fishing line, hooks, and trash. As a reminder, there are four locations around the lake with fishing line recycling containers. (If you need help finding one, please send an email to hali.holmes@friendslakeny.org). It’s a fun event and as competitive as you want it to be. Come and do all or part of the race (you can absolutely do just the swim, just the bike, or just the run, and the run can most certainly be a walk!). You could also put together a relay team! We’re thrilled to report that we now have a loon chick (loonlet) on Friends Lake (well, on the back of a loon parent on Friends Lake)! A couple of weeks ago, a loon was spotted on top of a tree stump by multiple kayakers. Since the incubation period for loons is about four weeks, the adults must have been setting up camp there since mid-June. Thank you to everyone involved for looking out for the nest and keeping their distance, and to all who helped with our lake clean-up to keep the lake safe for loons…

We’re excited they’re back, and are looking forward to protecting them again this summer as we work toward our fifth Loon Friendly Lake Certification through the ADK Center for Loon Conservation. This year, our first of two lake clean-ups (one of the requirements) is scheduled for the first week of July.
