Loon Friendly Lake / Wildlife Committee
If you’re at the lake, you’ve probably been treated to the call of the loons! We’re excited they’re back, and are looking forward to protecting them again this summer as we work toward our fifth Loon Friendly Lake Certification through the ADK Center for Loon Conservation.
This year, our first of two lake clean-ups (one of the requirements) is scheduled for the first week of July. To make participation easy, please choose a day and time that works best for you during that week to scour a section of the lake, beaches, roads, and trees along the shoreline for fishing line, hooks, and trash. As a reminder, there are four locations around the lake with fishing line recycling containers. (If you need help finding one, please send an email to hali.holmes@friendslakeny.org). New this year, if you share a picture of your “catch” (feel free to include yourself!) to the above email, AND you attend the annual meeting, you will be entered into a drawing for a beautiful loon photo from the ACLC, in a barnwood frame donated by Stevie Latham.
Please check best practices to learn about how to protect loons and other wildlife. To learn more about ADK loons, visit ADK loon website. Thanks for helping to protect our precious Friends Lake loons!
