Speed Limit on Atateka Dr

Reduce speed limit on Atateka Drive?

In January 2024 there was an unfortunate accident on Atateka Dr between a car and a horse drawn carriage which resulted in the death of a beloved horse of the Circle B Ranch.  This accident made some question whether the current speed limit creates a danger. Atateka Drive has a lot of pedestrian traffic—there are houses on both sides of the road, many people cross Atateka to access the lake, and others walk their dogs, jog or bicycle on the road which is fairly narrow.   Are you and/or your property association interested in being part of a group of people who are interested in approaching the Town Board of Trustees with a request to reduce the speed limit?  If so, please contact, FLPOA board member Hillary “Scout” Exter at: HJExter@yahoo.com

Annual Meeting

The FLPOA annual meeting will be held at 10 am on Saturday, July 6, at the TOWN OF CHESTER MUNICIPAL CENTER auditorium.

Join Us For Coffee

There will be a “getting to know your neighbor” session starting at 9 am with coffee provided. The formal meeting starts at 10 am.

News From the Loon Committee

When you’re at the lake, you likely  have already heard the call of the loons! We’re excited they’re back, and are looking forward to protecting them again this summer as we work toward our fourth year of Loon Friendly Lake Certification. Our lake clean-ups are scheduled for the first week of July and the last week of August, when many people are here enjoying the lake. To make participation easy, please choose a day and time that works best for you during these weeks to scour a section of the lake, beaches, roads, and trees along the shoreline for fishing line, hooks, and trash. As a reminder, there are four locations around the lake with fishing line recycling containers. Please send an email to hnholmes@nycap.rr.com if you need help finding one, as well as to report that you’ve helped with a clean-up. Pictures are appreciated!

Also, if you’re an angler, please remember to trade in your lead tackle at the Crossroads General Store, as lead is deadly to loons and other wildlife.

The loon nest raft has been placed back in the lake, in a slightly different location than last year to better protect it from wind and waves, in the hopes that a pair of loons will decide to use it this year. By the evidence of mussel shells on the raft at the end of last season, it appears it served as a nice picnic spot for an otter! Let’s hope the loons beat him to it this year! Thanks for helping to protect our precious Friends Lake loons!
